Lagos City Council has approved an addendum to the Shared Management Agreement with the National Railway Museum Foundation – Armando Ginestal Machado, to speed up the rehabilitation of the Museum Centre and enable the community to access history and a long-awaited heritage space is the main goal of this new decision made jointly by the two organisations.

Housed in the decommissioned old Lagos Station, the centre once featured a locomotive yard and turntable but closed due to lack of exhibition space and resources.

With the new agreement, the council takes charge of renovation, maintenance and public access, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and revitalising this important heritage site, as agreed by the Shared Management Protocol, which was signed during a commemorative ceremony at the Lagos Cultural Centre on July 30, 2022, coinciding precisely with the centenary celebration of the train’s arrival in Lagos.
