“LocalARTE”: New Lagos exhibition celebrates 50 years of the “Carnation Revolution” featuring contemporary local artists

This year’s edition of the collective exhibition LocalARTE focuses on the theme of freedom

– April 4, 2024

Centro Cultural de Lagos will host a contemporary art exhibition entitled “LocalARTE – Projeto de Arte Contemporânea de Artistas de Lagos”, an initiative to promote and support the local artistic community, between April 6 and May 25.

The borough’s artists were challenged to draw inspiration from the theme of “freedom”, emphasising how the Revolution of April 25th played a fundamental role in expanding artistic expression in the country.

The exhibition will cover various artistic areas, including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, installation, drawing, and video.

A monetary prize will also be awarded for the best three artworks, selected by a jury, with a first prize of €3,000, a second prize of €2,000 and a third prize of €1,000, and a “Revelation Prize” for a young artist (18-30 years old).

The first edition of LocalARTE was held in 2022 by Lagos City Council, with 49 participants, promoting the work of artists in Lagos, encouraging their creativity and imagination, while disseminating local culture and art.

Entrance to the exhibition is free.

Centro Cultural de Lagos is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, between 10am and 6pm.
