Ponta da Bandeira Fort monument classified as a Property of Public Interest
– September 15, 2025

Lagos City Council has signed a contract to strengthen the east façade of Ponta da Bandeira Fort, a 17th-century monument classified as a Property of Public Interest.
The €149,307 project (plus VAT) must be completed within 90 days and follows a technical inspection by Cultural Heritage I.P., which confirmed urgent structural concerns.
Works will focus on stabilising and reinforcing the façade to reduce the effects of erosion, sea forces, and adverse weather conditions, which have hastened the degradation of the structure in recent years.
Built in the Renaissance style, Ponta da Bandeira Fort is a notable example of military architecture in the Algarve, constructed to defend the mouth of the Bensafrim River.
Serving as a museum that integrates the Lagos Museum, it is one of the most prominent monuments representing the heritage and history of the Lagos municipality.
