According to local news website Algarve Marafado, Lagos’ old and obsolete train station will be transformed into a restaurant and art gallery.
The property was sold to an investor with a rehabilitation project who “according to information obtained from Mayor Hugo Pereira, intends ‘to create a restaurant and café on the ground floor and an art gallery on the 1st floor’”, says the website.
Two hotels from the international Hilton chain are also set to be built on the surrounding land (ranging from the back of both the old and current stations to close to the Escola das Naus).
According to the information shared by the promoters some time ago, one of the hotel units will feature 180 rooms and the other 90.
The mayor revealed the process “is at a very advanced stage” and expects the work to start this year or the next.
