Photographs that revealed the Algarve to the world on display in Vila do Bispo
The photography exhibition The Algarve by Asta and Luís de Almeida d’Eça is on display at the Vila do Bispo Interpretation Centre until March 31, with free admission.
Part of the celebrations marking 55 years of tourism in the Algarve, the exhibition highlights the artistic work of photographer couple Asta and Luís de Almeida d’Eça between the 1960s and 1980s, a decisive period in the region’s establishment as an international tourist destination.
Many of the images were originally used in campaigns promoting the Algarve abroad. They capture landscapes, traditions, crafts and everyday life, offering a glimpse into the region’s scenic beauty and cultural authenticity during those decades.
For this exhibition, the photographs are presented in a new format, across more than 20 large-scale panels, allowing visitors to see the historic images in greater detail.
The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday between 10am and 1pm, and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
The initiative is promoted by Turismo do Algarve in collaboration with Vila do Bispo Municipal Council and the Vila do Bispo Museum – Celeiro da História.
