Algarve oranges take centre stage with special prices, menus, showcooking and a live radio show

The Portimão Municipal Market is once again celebrating one of the region’s best-known products with the return of Orange Week, running from February 10 to 14.

Held under the motto “Algarve oranges – there’s no healthier fruit”, the initiative highlights the local citrus harvest with special prices and a full programme of activities aimed at shoppers and visitors.

Each day from 10am to 11.30am, the market will host showcooking demonstrations inspired by the Algarve orange. The sessions will be led by the Portimão Hotel and Tourism School, bringing students and chefs into direct contact with the public.

On February 14, the programme will have a Valentine’s Day twist with a special presentation by chef Nuno Martins from NUMA Restaurant, part of the Portuguese Michelin guide.

Also on February 14, from 10am to 12pm, the market will welcome back a live broadcast of the “Good morning, Market” show on Alvor FM, capturing the buzz of a busy market morning and bringing it to listeners across the region.

Throughout the week, entertainment will be provided by local artists.

The Orange Week is organised by the market’s fruit and vegetable department in partnership with the Municipality of Portimão, reinforcing the importance of local produce and seasonal shopping.
