With regular events, wine tastings, personalised experiences, exclusive labels and a new venue set to open, this special venture offers a relaxed way to discover unique wines
Just a few months after opening its doors, the Baptista Wine Experience has already established itself as one of Praia da Luz’s most interesting new venues, appealing both to wine lovers and those just looking for something different in the Algarve.
Conceived in 2025 and officially launched in March this year, the project marks a new chapter for Batista & Batista Supermercados, Lda. More than a wine shop, it was created as a space dedicated to discovery, learning and sharing experiences centred around the world of wine.
According to Beatriz Batista, the supermarket’s current manager and granddaughter of its founders, the idea emerged from “the need to expand the business and create a more specialised concept, as the supermarket had a large selection of wines that could not be properly showcased due to space limitations and the type of products involved”.
More than just a practical solution, the Baptista Wine Experience became an opportunity to develop a new business concept, combining wine tastings, personalised wine experiences and the sale of exclusive labels, whilst offering visitors a more engaging way to explore different wines and spirits.
So far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Beatriz Batista says the venture has received “many compliments” and describes the first few months as “very positive”.
She adds: “There was a real demand for something like this – a place where people could spend time together whilst enjoying leisure experiences and learning more about wine,” she says.
The venue has attracted a diverse clientele, from local residents and families to international visitors interested in discovering new producers and deepening their knowledge of Portuguese and international wines.
Although the business is preparing to relocate to a smaller space in the future, Beatriz assures that the concept itself will remain unchanged. “We will continue to maintain the quality and creativity we have always strived for,” she says.
With a regular programme of events and a carefully curated selection of premium wines and spirits, the Baptista Wine Experience looks set to further strengthen the reputation of Supermercado Baptista as a benchmark for innovation and quality in Praia da Luz.
