The Algarve textile artist presents works inspired by the ocean at Sagres Fortress
Algarve textile artist Vanessa Barragão is presenting Paisagens at the Centro de Arte Contemporânea da Fortaleza de Sagres until January 5, 2027.
The exhibition brings together works from different collections, using traditional textile techniques and repurposed materials to create organic forms inspired by corals, marine life and natural landscapes.
Barragão’s work is closely connected to the ocean and sustainability, transforming discarded fibres into large-scale textile pieces that explore the textures and fragility of marine ecosystems.
Born in Albufeira, the artist developed an early connection to the Algarve coastline before studying Fashion and Textile Design in Lisbon. Her work has since gained international recognition through large-scale installations, rugs and suspended textile pieces created using techniques including crochet, weaving, felt and latch hook.
Paisagens is open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm at the Centro de Arte Contemporânea da Fortaleza de Sagres.
