Top players compete for $40,000 as Carvoeiro event opens five-tournament series in the region

International tennis returns to the Algarve this week as the UTR Pro Tennis Tour makes its comeback to Portugal, starting in Carvoeiro.

Following the success of last year’s tour, the second edition of the UTR Pro Tennis Tour will see 40 professional players compete for a total prize fund of $40,000. The tournament runs from January 12 (Monday) to January 19 (Sunday) at the Carvoeiro Tennis & Padel Club.

From Monday to Friday, matches will follow a group-stage format, with players divided into four groups of five. The knockout rounds take place over the weekend, with both the men’s and women’s finals scheduled for Sunday.

The tournament features 40 players, evenly split between men and women, and is played on outdoor hard courts. Each champion will receive $3,600 in prize money (around €3,100), whilst finalists will earn $2,075 (approximately €1,800). Accommodation for all players and the officiating team is being provided at Vale da Lapa Luxury Village Resort, ensuring high-level conditions throughout the week.

The Carvoeiro event is the first of five combined tournaments scheduled for the first quarter of the season.

The remaining events will also take place in the Algarve during the weeks beginning January 19, February 2, February 23 and March 30.
