With a clear focus on constant and carefully considered growth, Bespoke Architects, founded by John Wilson in Carvoeiro, proves the reasons for its success on a daily basis.
Since opening its doors 15 years ago, the studio has built a strong reputation as a reference in the sector, serving clients of many different nationalities.
“I’m proud of the team we’ve built and grateful for the trust clients have placed in us. It’s rewarding to see how our approach to design and collaboration has matured and evolved,” says the CEO.
For him, this is “a milestone worth celebrating” alongside his team of nine, which includes seven architects, an administrator, a marketing specialist and a 3D expert. Believing that everyone plays a fundamental role in the company’s progress and deserves recognition, the team will mark the anniversary with a special group trip. “My team is what makes this company,” the CEO stresses.

Beyond aesthetics, the homes designed by Bespoke Architects are created in close collaboration with clients to be efficient and functional. An architect himself, John says they “carefully consider factors such as site conditions, natural light, flow and planning regulations to achieve the best possible outcome for each build”.
In every project, the main priority is to bring the client’s vision to life through a smooth and engaging process that accompanies every stage.
Bespoke aims not only to meet expectations but to exceed them, whilst also enhancing the way residents live in and enjoy their homes.
Living up to the company’s name, clients received a truly bespoke service and are first invited to share their ideas and inspirations, thus ensuring the design responds precisely to each brief.
These concepts are then translated into 3D renderings, allowing for a clearer and more tangible vision of the final result. “Honesty is a core value for us; we communicate openly and transparently at every step,” emphasises John, adding that the goal is to create exceptional homes that excel in both design and functionality.
From the initial concept to the completed home, clients benefit from what he describes as a “collaborative, organised and enjoyable process”, driven by the team’s professionalism and attention to detail.
Today, the studio’s extensive portfolio includes a wide range of projects, from a traditional Portuguese villa with a striking central courtyard and views towards the hills to an expansive contemporary residence overlooking the sea.
“We embrace every opportunity to create homes that are both distinctive and true to their context. Each project demonstrates our commitment to thoughtful design,” John highlights.
All bureaucratic aspects, including building licences, project management and coordination, are handled by Bespoke, ensuring the efficient and seamless delivery of every project. Many of these works form an important part of the studio’s story, with some earning international recognition, such as the BIG SEE Architecture Award, which last year distinguished the Sky Base One project, in Carvoeiro, at a ceremony held in Slovenia.
“Experiences like this are incredibly rewarding, but what truly stands out for us every time is the completion of a design. Behind each project lies a long process of dedication, refinement and hard work, and seeing clients enjoying their new home is always something special,” the CEO reflects.
John’s interest in architecture and construction developed naturally from an early age. After working as chief architect at Oceânico Developments, he felt it was the right moment to establish his own firm, and in 2011 that vision became a reality. What began with just John and his ambition has since evolved into a highly regarded architecture studio. As both the team and the scale of projects expanded, so too did the workspace itself.
This year, Bespoke promises further developments, beginning with a renewed focus on high-quality design and followed by the opening of a second office, the location of which has yet to be announced.
The company’s growth, John Wilson stresses, will continue to be carefully managed, “maintaining the high standards and values that define us, without compromising the personalised service we are known for”.
