Ferragudo studio Marlene Uldschmidt Architects was awarded the silver medal in the category for Residential – Single-family Houses, at the Prémios Lusófonos de Arquitetura for their project Villa Petra

Located in Carvoeiro, Villa Petra is a renovation project set in a low-density area and features several amenities such as pool and a tennis court, along with stunning landscape with palm trees and tropical plants.

The Prémios Lusófonos de Arquitetura awards aim to recognize the best architecture and interior design projects in countries with Portuguese as an official language, based on factors such as innovation, creativity, comfort, sustainability and modernity. “In a world where architecture and interior design are increasingly important for the happiness of human beings and the preservation of our nature, there is an urgent need to distinguish the studios, professionals and companies that have done most for these sectors,” can be read on the awards’ official website.

Marlene Uldschmidt Architects was founded in Ferragudo in 2005, under the belief that architecture and design should be in context with the habitat, topography and heritage of the location of the site. “A balance between architecture, landscape and people is central to each project. Our imaginative concepts combine natural materials and contemporary design to create volumes of light and space. The use of local craftsmen and materials are also an integral part of the design journey.”

The studio has received several accolades over the years and, in 2019, they displayed their work in an exhibit entitled Portfolio, which took place in one of their recent projects, Galeria Vasco da Gama 26, in Ferragudo. In 2018, the gallery had also showcased the photographic exhibit Mar e Terra, which depicted not only the renovation project for the historic building where it is set but also the town’s fishing tradition and history.
