The project brings life to public spaces, joining the growing public art route from Lagoa and Carvoeiro

The popular Vale de Centeanes beach has been given a new look with the addition of a large-scale mural, transforming part of the seaside area into a permanent work of street art.

The mural was created by local artist Stephen Jones, commissioned by the Lagoa and Carvoeiro parish union and is now on display overlooking the beach.

Inspired by the landscape itself, the mural features the cliffs, sea tones and natural atmosphere of the coastline, and was designed to blend into the surroundings whilst turning an ordinary structure into a visual landmark, the parish union says in a statement.

“Urban art has the power to humanise and bring life to our public spaces. With this mural at Vale de Centeanes beach, we not only embellish our territory with a theme so dear to us, but we also continue to value the talent of Stephen Jones, a local artist who has been a key partner in creating our artistic route,” said José Fernandes, president of the União das Freguesias de Lagoa e Carvoeiro.

The mural adds to a growing public art route across Lagoa and Carvoeiro, which already includes large murals at town entrances and smaller decorated installations across the parish.
