New vision

Since the start of the year, Baptista Supermarket has been full of surprises. First came the appointment of new manager Beatriz Batista, who spearheaded a thorough revitalisation of the store – from its interior design and logistics to new staff uniforms – followed by the launch of their own in-house butcher’s counter.

Now, with a fresh, innovative vision, the Luz supermarket is transforming its entire approach to food retail, embracing continuous improvements and fostering a dynamic company culture focused on efficiency and quality.

Beatriz believes that, although Baptista remains a family-run business, it has the potential to operate independently and compete with the big boys.

“Our ambition isn’t about growing bigger, but better,” she explains. “It’s about enhancing the service we already offer and strengthening direct communication between customers and the business.”

The goal is to maintain Baptista’s unique scale whilst celebrating the qualities that set it apart from major supermarket chains, most notably the close ties with customers and producers, whether local, national or international.

“Our size gives us the perfect opportunity to source and offer rare, special products,” Beatriz points out. More than just the personal connection that existed before, the aim now is to build trust, prioritising “well-being and long-term loyalty”.

The plan is to turn challenges into strengths, enabling growth and evolution. Embracing change and shifting paradigms is, in Beatriz’s view, essential for this next step, which includes a revamped operational structure.

With a new management model, she feels the business is undergoing “a deep modernisation”, a prospect she greets with enthusiasm.

Looking ahead, Baptista intends to reinvent retail, offering visitors more than a transaction. The vision is to create a cohesive experience where “the store, the products and the entire environment speak for themselves”. Aware that this area offers many unexplored opportunities, the manager stresses the aim is to give customers multiple ways to shop – from mobile or desktop to the physical store.

By offering choice, Baptista is adapting to the needs of every individual or family. At the same time, the store’s layout and product presentation are being carefully rethought to support practical, efficient decisions and to create “a deep impact” on the shopping experience. “We want to invest in our ethos through intentional choices, openness and transparency with our customers,” Beatriz reveals.

Baptista is a family business with a rich history, dedication, and a trusted reputation with clients and suppliers worldwide.

Now, it’s focused on creating transformative projects whilst carving out its place as a welcoming, innovative supermarket. It’s a place where creative collaboration flourishes across teams and departments.

“We have an incredible team with a strong spirit of cooperation. Everything we’ve achieved so far is thanks to our combined effort,” says Beatriz, optimistic about the road ahead.
