Portimão’s Sardine Festival returns from August 4-9 to the city’s riverside area, celebrating its 30th edition with a line-up featuring some of the biggest names in Portuguese music.

Matias Damásio will open the event on August 4, followed by Némanus (August 5), Átoa (August 6), Cuca Roseta (August 7), Fernando Daniel (August 8) and Xutos & Pontapés (August 9), who will close the commemorative edition. All concerts will take place on the main stage from 10pm.

The festival’s official opening will feature a re-enactment of the Sardine Unloading at Cais Gil Eanes, highlighting the importance of fishing and the canning industry to the municipality’s identity. Around 500kg of fresh sardines, provided by Docapesca, will be used for the special occasion.

In 2020, the initiative received an honourable mention from the Portuguese Association of Museology in the Innovation and Creativity category.

Entry to the festival is free.
