New Quinta do Amparo project will include a 500-seat sports venue, redesigned gardens and new community areas

Construction is underway on a new €5.65 million sports pavilion in Portimão’s Quinta do Amparo neighbourhood, replacing the area’s ageing sports facilities with a larger and more modern venue.

The project, fully funded by Portimão Municipal Council, will create a multi-purpose indoor space for sports training, competitions and community events.

Plans include a full-size sports court, changing rooms, technical offices and support areas for athletes, as well as a grandstand with capacity for 500 spectators.

The investment also covers the redevelopment of the public spaces surrounding the pavilion. The neighbouring garden will be redesigned with renewed green areas, accessible paths, ramps and steps, creating a more practical and welcoming area for local residents.

According to the council, the project aims to meet growing demand for sports and leisure facilities, which has experienced considerable residential growth in recent years.

Construction is expected to take 540 days. The site is currently being prepared, with the pavilion scheduled for completion in early 2028.

Once the work is finished, the council says the neighbourhood will have “one of the most complete sports, leisure and community spaces in the city”.
