More than 1,000 people are expected for the traditional land and sea procession and three days of festivities

Ferragudo is preparing to celebrate its annual Festa em Honra de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, with more than 1,000 people expected to attend one of the Algarve fishing village’s most cherished religious traditions.

Taking place from August 14 to 16, the festival combines religious celebrations with live music, food stalls and community gatherings, culminating in the traditional land and sea procession on August 15.

Festivities begin on August 14 with traditional food stalls (tasquinhas), a raffle and live entertainment from Brasa Doirada and DJ Licota.

The following day, the village centre will host a traditional arraial, with food, drinks and music by Companhia Limitada.

The main celebrations begin with Mass at 5pm on the feast day, followed at 6pm by a procession accompanied by the Portimonense Philharmonic Band. The procession makes its way to the Ferragudo Lifeboat Station, where fishing boats and fishermen receive a blessing before the statue of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is carried across the Arade River to Praia da Angrinha. The procession then returns to the village church to conclude the religious celebrations.

The maritime procession is one of the festival’s defining moments, reflecting Ferragudo’s long-standing ties to the sea and its fishing heritage.

The celebrations conclude on August 16, when the food stalls reopen from 6pm to 1am, followed by a performance by Manuel João.

The event is organised by Ferragudo Parish Council and the local parish, with logistical support from Lagoa Municipality and the collaboration of local associations.
