Famous gastronomic festival will bring musical performances by Aurea, Sara Correia, Anjos, Richie Campbell, Marisa Liz, Delfins and much more

Portimão’s famous Sardine Festival, taking place between July 30 and August 4, brings back the festive atmosphere of the traditional sardinhada, which promises to tickle the appetites of all visitors.

As always, the grills are back in operation and will be filling the riverside area with the most traditional and characteristic aroma of grilled sardines, served on the plate or on slices of for everyone to try.

The Festival Plate will include 5 grilled sardines, bread, boiled potatoes and the famous ‘Á Algarvia’ salad (not including a drink) with a fixed price of €10.50. Visitors looking for alternatives to Sardinha Assada will find local organisations and menus in the exhibitors’ area, where regional snacks will be plentiful.

Local restaurants will be also taking part in the “Aqui há Sardinha!” (“Here we have Sardines!”) initiative, with the Sardine symbol displayed on their entrances. The restaurants are Dona Barca, Forte e Feio, Peixarada, Retiro do Peixe Assado, Ú Venâncio Reservas and Zizá.

Aside from the great food, the festival will include regional handicrafts, snacks, and sweets, which are always popular at the event, which attracts dozens of exhibitors who showcase the best of the regional handicrafts and agrifood sector.

On July 30, starting at 10.30am, there will be a historical re-enactment of the unloading of sardines in the city’s riverside area.

As for the musical performances, there will be no shortage of them, starting every day at 6pm and ending after the last performance which starts at 22pm.
