Santa Claus, street parades, Christmas lights, and even a natural ice rink!

Portimão is preparing to host its annual Christmas event, ‘A Christmas Dream’, which will start on November 29 and run until January 6.

The festivities will begin with the arrival of Santa Claus at Praça 1º de Maio (the square in front of the town hall) on Friday, November 29, at 4.30pm.

Afterwards, the city’s Christmas lights will be turned on at 6pm at Praça da República (Alameda square), accompanied by a celebratory “immersive show of colour, lights, and music,” which will run hourly throughout the festive season.

Decorative lights will light up 50 key locations in Portimão, spreading the magic of Christmas across the city.

This tradition, cherished by residents and visitors, is a highlight of the season, as noted by the municipal council.

The Christmas programme will feature a natural ice rink, street parades, a Christmas market, Santa’s House and Workshop, the iconic Christmas train, and a new themed attraction promised to be unveiled soon.

The full schedule will soon be available online, where visitors will be able to find detailed information about the event’s many attractions and activities.
