New venue combines curated wines, personalised service and gastronomy experiences with guest chefs

For decades, Baptista Supermarket in Praia da Luz has built a solid reputation as a go-to destination for those seeking quality products and a friendly, expert service.

Now, this long-standing tradition enters a new chapter with the Baptista Wine Experience. Conceived by Batista and Supermercados Batista, Lda, the project stems from the new management’s drive for innovation and revitalisation, transforming this legacy into even more enriching experiences for residents and visitors alike.

“At Baptista Wine Experience, every bottle tells a story,” explains manager Beatriz Batista. “Through a carefully curated selection of outstanding wines, both Portuguese and international, we offer a true sensory journey through the world of wine, where every choice is a discovery and every sip a memorable experience.”

Here, you can find over a thousand different wines, including award-winning Portuguese wines, prestigious champagnes, aged whiskies, traditional liqueurs, craft beers and fine ciders.

Personalised service also remains one of the brand’s cornerstones. “We want to create a unique experience for each customer, supporting and guiding them in discovering wines that best suit their preferences, but also their memories,” says Beatriz Baptista.

This commitment also extends to a responsible and sustainable approach, prioritising producers who respect the environment and value conscious winemaking practices.

Inspired by the area’s maritime history and its proximity to the ocean, the Baptista Wine Experience aims to offer a one-of-a-kind exploration of wine.

“We draw inspiration from the history of navigators and explorers – a defining part of Lagos’ identity – and from our proximity to the Atlantic, to offer a true sensory journey through the region’s wines and flavours,” explains the manager.

The new venue has been designed to cater to a diverse audience, from the casual wine lover to the discerning collector.

“We want to become a must-visit destination for wine lovers – both residents and tourists in Lagos, who are looking for more than just a place to buy wine, and who value the sensory and cultural experience associated with this world,” explains Beatriz Batista.

Gastronomy also plays a key role in this concept. The Baptista Wine Experience aims to promote local produce through tasting sessions that combine wine and signature cuisine.

“This will also be a space to showcase the very best the region has to offer, combining gastronomy with wine tasting and providing new experiences that appeal to the senses, flavours and memories,” says Beatriz Batista.

From wine tastings with producers, exclusive events and pairings with guest chefs, the goal is to create a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, where wine is savoured slowly and explored with curiosity.

Inspired by the Algarve and its rich winemaking tradition, the Baptista Wine Experience is a venue designed for guests to sample a selection of wines and tapas in a relaxed, stylish and welcoming atmosphere – the natural evolution of a legacy dedicated to quality, expertise and sharing.
