A fitting tribute by local artist Isa Neuparth

Ferragudo breakwater, a popular spot for surfers and body-boarders, has been revitalised with a new 26-metre-long street art mural, following a series of vandalism incidents.

The breakwater and its beach, known as Praia do Molhe, are known for boasting waves which are “unique in the western Algarve”, attracting scores of surfers and bodyboarders particularly during the winter months, the local parish council said in a statement.

However, the area has recently been marred by un-sightly graffiti, spurring swift action from the local community which came together to remove it and contacted the parish council for further support.

Their talks culminated in the creation of the impressive mural by local artist Isa Neuparth, who transformed the defaced breakwater into a tribute to the surfers, bodyboarders and beach-goers who love the area and look after it.

Luis Alberto, president of Ferragudo’s local council, attended the unveiling of the mural at the start of June and expressed gratitude to the community for their proactive efforts and pledged continued support for future projects aimed at preserving and enhancing the area, putting “pressure on responsible authorities” when needed.
