The 29th edition of the Portimão International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament started this Tuesday at the Portimão Arena, preceding the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup, which will take place this weekend, May 27 to 29, and offers the opportunity for younger gymnasts to compete in the same arena as the sport’s elite.

Today’s competition features 70 junior and 31 senior gymnasts, representing 19 countries, including Israel, Bulgaria, the USA, Romania, Germany and Hungary.

Tomorrow, May 25, the day will begin with the clubs and ribbons show by the senior gymnasts, followed by the protocol ceremonies. The Finals will start later, with organisers expecting “a tight competition with high levels of difficulty and beauty”.

The awards ceremony will mark the end of the 29th edition of the Portimão International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament.

As for the gymnasts, the presence of the Hungarian gymnast Fanni Pigniczki is eagerly awaited, as she was present at the Tokyo Olympics. Olympic champion Linoy Ashram will also be present, not competing herself but as the coach of the Israeli team.

As for the Portuguese delegation, we have gymnasts Lara Silva, Elisabete Seletcaia, Beatriz Veraeghe, Madalena Lages, Matilde Castro and Sofia Amorim at the senior level, and Carolina Freitas, Maria Leonor Baptista, Oleksandra Huzak, Sofia Banakh, Anamar Couto, Joana Ferreira, Mafalda Santos, Bruna Tavares and Carlota Araújo in the junior level, with the vast majority taking their first steps in the top international competitions.
