Explore a varied programme of art and culture
Two exhibitions at the Centro Cultural de Lagos are on display until September 26. Entre o Invisível e o Essencial (Between the Invisible and the Essential) brings together Joana Varatojo and Clara Buser, whose work explores nature, transformation, emotions and renewal through colour, abstraction and symbolism.
The programme also includes a collective painting session led by Varatojo on September 19 and a voice and mantra singing circle with Buser on September 26.
Running alongside it is Core Cuore, a group exhibition presented by cultural association casaBranca and curated by Ana Borralho and João Galante. Featuring works by Andy Thomas, Jordan Stone, Molly Soda, John Rising and Noper, the exhibition draws on the fragmented digital aesthetic known as “corecore” to explore hyperconnectivity, information overload, alienation and online identity through audiovisual works and immersive environments.
A new exhibition is running at the Centro Cultural de Lagos until October 17. O Fio, Forma e Cor (Thread, Form and Colour) is a solo textile art exhibition by Karina Lyra, a Brazilian artist from Recife who now lives in Monchique.
Inspired by the natural landscape around her, Lyra uses tufting to transform wool into textured, three-dimensional compositions influenced by climbing plants, flowers and other organic forms. Her work explores colour, texture and memory, drawing connections between the natural world and our inner experiences. A self-taught artist with a background spanning music and visual arts, she also works with ceramics, continuing her exploration of materials and handmade processes. O Fio, Forma e Cor is open from 4pm to 7pm.
