22nd Al Mutamid Festival starts this February

Al Mutamid Festival 2022 is back this February

The music played at the street markets and palaces of Gharb Al-Andalus centuries ago inspired by the cultures of the Maghreb and the Middle East returns once again to the Algarve with the Al-Mutamid Festival 2022, featuring five different shows this February and March.

Here is the comprised list of dates for the Festival:

19/02 > Albufeira >  Music and Afro-Arabic dance – Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira (Auditório Municipal de Albufeira)

26/02 > Lagoa > Arabic-Andaluzian Music and Oriental dance – Carlos do Carmo Auditorium (Auditório Carlos do Carmo)

04/03 > Silves > Al-Andalus Melodies – Mascarenhas Gregório Theatre (Teatro Mascarenhas Gregório)

05/03 > Lagos > Al-Andalus Melodies – Lagos Cultural Centre (Centro Cultural de Lagos)

05/03 > Loulé > Music and Middle-Eastern and Maghrebian dance – Louletano Cinetheatre (Cineteatro Louletano)

 

MUHSILWAN Trio | Albufeira | February 19 | 9.30pm

On February 19, the Municipal Auditorium of Albufeira will host the MUHSILWAN trio at 9.30pm.

MUHSILWAN is a Muslim musical trio with Afro-Arabic roots, comprised of Muhammad el Bouzidi (Morroco), Wafir Sheikheldin (Sudan) and Aboubakar Syla (Guinea), accompanied by Afro-Arabic tribal dancer Sonia Sampayo.

Aboubakar Syla: Voice, ngoni, kora and afoxé

Sonia Sampayo: Oriental and Afro-Arabic tribal dance

YINNAN ENSEMBLE | Lagoa | February 26 | 7pm

On February 26, the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa will host the YINNAN ENSEMBLE at 7pm.

The group YINNAN ENSEMBLE is comprised of 3 musicians originating from Tetouan and Chefchaouen (Morocco) who will masterfully perform the complex Arabic-Andalusian music, and also instrumental plays from the Middle East. The ensemble will be also accompanied by an oriental dancer, Manuela Caballero.

IMAN KANDOUSSI & ALMAWSILY | Silves and Lagos | March 4 & 5

Trio IMAN KANDOUSSI & ALMAWSILY will be performing in Silves at the Mascarenhas Gregório Theatre on March 4, at 9.30pm and Lagos Cultural Centre at 9.30pm on March 5.

In this trio project, renowned singer IMAN KANDOUSSI (Marroco) will be accompanied by the duo ALMAWSILY, comprised of Morrocan lutenist Amine Tailassane and Andalusian percussionist Chiqui Garcia. The trio will not only perform Arabic-Andalusian music but also traditional themes from the Maghreb, the Middle East and the oriental Mediterranean.

IBN MISJAN ENSEMBLE | Loulé | March 5 | 9pm

IBN MISJAN ENSEMBLE will be performing in Loulé at the Cinetheatre (Cineteatro Louletano) on March 5 at 9pm.

The ensemble is comprised of musicians Hicham Khyry, Houssam Hammoumi, Yassin Amesnaou (Morocco) and Salah Eddin (Syria) who perform traditional songs from the Middle East and the Maghreb, alongside an oriental dancer, for a show full of color, beauty and sensuality. The show will end with a special effect, with the Egyptian dance “tanoura”, who originated from a sufi form of Zikr, and creates the illusion of a human kaleidoscope, provoking a hypnotic effect on the spectator.
