The 26th edition of Portimão’s photography and new drawing contest invites artists to join until May 13

The newest edition of Portimão’s photography contest is set to take place on May 16, bringing a new drawing category for the first time.

Held as part of the celebrations marking the 18th anniversary of the Portimão Museum, the Corrida Fotográfica de Portimão will once again invite participants to capture different views of the municipality.

This year, alongside the usual photography challenge, organisers are introducing Desenhar Portimão (Drawing Portimão), a new drawing initiative aimed at welcoming even more artists. Participants can now submit both photographs and drawings, which will be assessed by a jury across the two categories.

The contest is regarded as one of the best-known events of its kind in Portugal and has been closely linked to the museum since its early editions, even before the venue opened in its current form in 2008.

On May 16, photography participants will have from 8.30am to 8.30pm to produce 12 original images based on themes set by organisers. All photographs must be taken within the municipality, such as Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande.

The drawing event will run on the same day, from 9am to 6pm. The museum will act as the meeting point, where participants will receive details about the two locations selected for drawing or painting.

Prizes will be awarded to the top four entries in each category, ranging between €750 and €1,000. There will also be a Youth Prize for participants aged between 12 and 17, as well as a Special Jury Prize. Winning works will be displayed at the museum throughout December.

Registrations for both categories are open until May 13.

Participants can sign up in person at the museum or online, where the full rules and details are available. More information can be requested by telephone or email (+351 282 405 230/269 | [email protected]).
