The festival brings together more than a hundred surfers for the World Parasurf League and Portimão Pro Junior

Directed by international photographer and artist João Bracourt, the competition combines surfing, art and music, promoting a relaxed approach focused on respecting nature and local culture.

Taking place at Praia da Rocha, Portimão’s SURFEST will continue until Sunday, March 9, with The World Parasurf League (WPSL) competition running from Friday, March 7, to Sunday, March 9. This global adapted surfing championship provides a competitive and developmental platform for surfers with disabilities.

The World Parasurf League features athletes of various nationalities, with the spotlight on Portuguese athlete Pedro Palma, accompanied by his coach Filipe Costa. Both are from Portimão and are accustomed to reaching podiums in European and world competitions.

Following the WPSL, the Portimão Pro Junior will take place on March 8 and 9. The competition will be part of the ‘National Pro Junior’ Circuit of the Portuguese Surfing Federation and the National Surfers Association, which brings together the best under-21 surfers in the country. Among the local athletes competing are Suri Rodrigues, Sienna Rodrigues, Leonor Melo, João Bernardino and Louis Escudeiro.

In addition to the competitions, the festival will have a dedicated space around the Praia da Rocha sports area building, featuring a 75sqm Surf Village, with stands selling boards, clothing, art, food and drink, and live music and DJs will be performing until 7pm.

Portimão SURFEST is sponsored by the municipality of Portimão, and organised by the Portimão Surf Clube, with the approval of the World Para Surf League, the Portuguese Surfing Federation and the National Surfers Association.
