Second round of the international racing competition takes place at Algarve International Circuit

The Algarve is preparing to welcome back the international motorcycling calendar with the World Superbike Championship, which kicked off in Australia in February.

The second round of the championship will take place at the Algarve International Circuit (AIA) in Portimão from March 27–29. Circuit management expects this year’s event to generate stronger interest than in previous editions, with ticket sales already pointing to higher attendance.

Fans can expect a packed programme on the track, with four different categories competing throughout the weekend: Superbike, Supersport, Sportbike and WCR. The spotlight will naturally fall on the Superbike class, where Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira, who previously raced in MotoGP, will be among the competitors.

This year will also mark the debut of the Sportbike category at the Portimão circuit. Across Saturday and Sunday, a total of nine races will take place, adding to the energetic and lively atmosphere that characterises World Superbike.

Another key feature of the event is the open paddock, giving spectators the chance to get closer to riders and teams. Visitors can also enjoy entertainment throughout the weekend and watch the podium celebrations, which traditionally take place in the paddock area.

“Superbike has a very special atmosphere and a unique closeness with the fans. All the entertainment is centred in the paddock and, together with the championship organiser, we will once again create moments and activities for the whole family, because SBK really is a celebration of motorcycling for everyone,” said AIA administrator Miguel Praia.

Tickets for the event are available through the AIA website, with prices starting at €32.50.

The competition will continue throughout the year, heading next to the Netherlands on April 17-19 and May 1-3, before moving on to the Czech Republic on May 15-17. Several rounds will then follow until the championship returns to Portugal for leg 11, the Tissot Estoril Round, taking place on October 9-11. The season will conclude with the 12th round in Spain on October 16-18.
